France has a new prime minister

The leader of the centrist "MoDem" party in France, François Bayrou, has been appointed the country's new prime minister, the press service of the Elysée Palace reports.

Francois Bayrou, 73, is considered to be an ally of French President Emmanuel Macron, taking the place of Michel Barnier, who was forced to resign as prime minister following a vote of no confidence in his government by the French parliament, the National Assembly.

The vote of no confidence took place on December 4, when a majority of the National Assembly voted against Michel Barnier's cabinet, forcing him to resign just three months after taking office.
