Atmospheric phenomena have nothing to do with geological phenomena. After 1988, there have been much more significant warmings in December, but no earthquakes have been recorded.
Deputy Director of Hydrometeorology and Monitoring Center Gagik Surenyan wrote about this on his Facebook page.
"On December 7, 1988, it was very hot, the air temperature in Yerevan reached +13...+15 degrees, in Gyumri about +8...+10 degrees.
Due to this circumstance, the fear that when the air temperature rises sharply in winter, people think that there will be an earthquake.
"However, scientific studies have shown that the atmospheric phenomena have nothing to do with the geological phenomena, it just coincided. After 1988, there were much more significant warmings, but no earthquake was recorded," he wrote.
