Merkel said she stands by her decisions on Nord Stream 2

Former German Chancellor Angela Merkel has stated that she remains committed to her decisions regarding the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline, pointing out the consequences of its shutdown in the form of rising energy prices.

"I stand by my decisions," Merkel said in an interview with Der Spiegel magazine, answering the question of whether she thought it was right that Germany did not stop the project after the reunification of Crimea with Russia.
The former chancellor explained that his goal is to provide cheap gas to the German economy.

"We are now seeing the consequences of high energy prices for our country," he added.

Merkel noted that in those years she "did not have the support of the political majority" to break trade relations with Russia, and German business was completely against such a decision.
