The town of Grindavík and Iceland's popular geothermal resort, the Blue Lagoon, have been completely evacuated after a volcano erupted on the Reykjavík peninsula on Thursday night, reports said.RUV:the TV channel.

Earlier, the Meteorological Service of Iceland reported that a volcanic eruption took place on the Reykjanes peninsula. According to the RUV TV channel, the police chief of Sidurnes said that an evacuation is being carried out in Grindavik.

As the TV channel noted, the civil defense service declared a state of emergency due to the eruption of the volcano.

"Grindavik has been completely evacuated, as well as the Blue Lagoon," reports the TV channel. According to Blue Lagoon's official website, the resort will be closed on Thursday.

Keflavik International Airport, for its part, reported that it is working normally.

According to the Icelandic Meteorological Service, this eruption is much smaller in scale than the one that happened in August.
