Two passengers were tied up on a flight from Melbourne to Doha after a fight broke out in the cabin. They were handed over to local authorities upon arrival in the Qatari capital, Qatar Airways, which operated the flight, said.
“We can confirm that two male passengers were involved in a physical altercation on Friday during flight VA7 from Melbourne to Doha,” the airline said in a statement.
According to media reports, the men made threats to passengers and crew members, including claiming that one of them had a gun.
A female passenger on the flight told Nine that the men repeatedly got up and sat down, then began arguing and fighting. She said they did not comply with the crew’s demands, after which the flight attendants had to tie them up.
“The men were not following the crew’s instructions and eventually had to be tied up,” the woman said.
Qatar Airways confirmed that both passengers remained tied up until the end of the flight and were handed over to local law enforcement after landing in Doha.
“The safety and well-being of our crew and passengers remains our top priority,” the airline said.
