Iran has allowed Iraqi ships to pass freely through the Strait of Hormuz, eliminating the requirement to obtain a special permit. This was reported by the IRNA agency.
"Brotherly Iraq is freed from all the restrictions we set in the Strait of Hormuz," the Iranian side said in a statement. Until now, Iraqi oil tankers could pass through the strait only after obtaining a special permit.
Tehran's decision was one of Baghdad's main requests during the visit of Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf to Iraq.
In June, Iran, the US and Israel reached an interim agreement on creating conditions for the restoration of shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, but later the agreements broke down.
