The President of Kazakhstan, Kasim-Jomart Tokayev, revoked the right to address the people, state bodies and officials on the most important issues of foreign policy throughout his life, granted to the former President of the country, Nursultan Nazarbayev. Corresponding changes were made in the concept of Kazakhstan's foreign policy for 2020-2030, reportsNur.kz.
Tokayev's August 14 decree was published in the "Adilet" information and legal system and entered into force on the day of signing.
We are talking about the exclusion of the provision from the concept, according to which Nazarbayev, as the first president, "by virtue of his historical mission" had the right to take initiatives on the most important issues of foreign policy for life.
At the same time, the reference to the constitutional law "On Yelbasi, the first president of the Republic of Kazakhstan" was also removed from the document.
The updated concept emphasizes that Kazakhstan will continue a multi-vector, pragmatic and proactive foreign policy, paying primary attention to the protection of the country's national interests, independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Among the priorities are also the protection of the interests of Kazakhstani citizens abroad, informing the world community about the country's foreign policy initiatives, and increasing the society's resistance to external negative influence.
The changes also referred to the provisions regarding the role of the Kurulta and the Parliament in implementing the foreign policy course.
The decree entered into force on August 14.
