"Hraparak" writes: On September 30, 2024, the Anti-Corruption Court accepted the General Prosecutor's Office's claim regarding the confiscation of the property of illegal origin from Serzh Sargsyan's brother, former deputy of the RA NA, Alexander Sargsyan, and his related persons in favor of the state. The prosecution demanded the confiscation of 14 immovable and 8 movable properties, participation in 5 legal entities, as well as 5 billion 92 million AMD. We wrote last year that some of Alexander Sargsyan's money is under embargo within the scope of the case.
His lawyers applied to the court, asking to remove the embargo on part of that money, so that they could be used to pay taxes, legal fees and necessary expenses. In February 2025, the Anti-Corruption Court made a decision on that petition. However, the prosecutor's office, not agreeing with the court's decision, appealed it.
In March, the Appellate Court partially satisfied the appeal of the prosecutor's office, canceling the decision of the first instance with regard to the means of subsistence and the lawyer's remuneration, and sending a new examination in that regard to the Anti-Corruption Court. Now, one year later, there is a new development in the case. On May 13, 2026, the Anti-Corruption Court again made a decision regarding the means of securing the claim. To put it simply, the court decided to change the existing restrictions on Alexander Sargsyan's property and funds. The prosecutor's office appealed this decision as well. And here, recently the Anti-Corruption Appellate Court partially satisfied the complaint, canceling the decision of May 13 and sending the case back to the Anti-Corruption Court for a new examination.
In other words, on May 13, the court of first instance decided to change the restrictions on Sargsyan's property and money, but the appellate court overturned that decision. Now the Anti-corruption Court has to examine the issue again. It is also important to note that the court has not yet made a final decision regarding the transfer of Alexander Sargsyan's property to the state, this is only about applying a means of securing the claim for interim claims.
The investigation of the main case is still ongoing, and this court process only concerns the question of what restrictions should be kept on his property and funds until the final conclusion of the case.
The authorities are doing everything to ensure that Sashik Sargsyan has neither money to pay the lawyer nor for daily expenses.
