Ahead of COP29: The parliamentarians of Italy called for the release of the Armenians in Baku

On the eve of the United Nations climate change conference to be held in Baku, 38 Italian parliamentarians issued a call for the release of Armenian prisoners of war.

According to ANSA agency, the rank is indicated.
"- Considering that Azerbaijan will host COP29, the United Nations Climate Change Conference, from November 11 to 22, 2024, - Considering that Italy has very good trade and political relations with Baku, as well as effective cooperation in the energy sector, which ranks Italy among Azerbaijan's primary European partners,

- Taking into account that it is in Italy's interest to establish stability and peace in the South Caucasus region, therefore also to encourage all actions contributing to the increase of trust between Armenia and Azerbaijan and the signing of the final peace agreement, - Noting that after the recent conflicts, 23 Armenians are still being held in Baku for various reasons. prisoners of war and other detainees whose families have been waiting for their return home for a long time;

- Considering that their release will be a positive impulse for the relations between the two countries and will further have an additional positive impact on the entire region and COP29 itself, the undersigned deputies and senators of the Italian Republic call on the government.
- To urge the Azerbaijani partner to release all Armenian prisoners of war and other detained persons within the framework of the COP29 event, as a manifestation of goodwill and as a sign of friendship with Italy,

- to ensure, if necessary, their return to their home, - to convey to Armenia and Azerbaijan Italy's commitment to contribute to the establishment of final peace in the region."
