The death toll from the devastating earthquakes in Venezuela has reached 5,278, with more than 23,500 displaced in makeshift camps, according to a government statement. "5,278 people died, 16,740 were injured, and 6,462 were saved," said the document published on the Telegram channel of the President of the National Assembly, Jorge Rodríguez.
In the last 24 hours, the number of victims increased by 70, while the number of survivors remained unchanged. According to updated data, 23,587 people are accommodated in 107 temporary camps, and 17,907 residents remain homeless. As a result of the disaster, 856 buildings were damaged, 190 of which completely collapsed.
As of July 20, 1405 aftershocks were registered in the country. 30,989 emergency service workers, 31,745 volunteers and 2,278 foreign rescuers are involved in the earthquake relief work.
