US President Donald Trump has threatened to raise tariffs on Canada due to forest fires that have covered several major American cities with smoke.
He published a corresponding message on Truth Social. “We hold Canada responsible for not properly managing their forests, which unnecessarily allows foul, dirty and harmful air into the United States, which is totally unacceptable. I will call Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney today to find out if they are taking any action," the American leader wrote.
Trump believes that Canada is refusing to properly manage its forests, "knowing that this refusal will lead to these very results." “This is willful negligence that happens year after year and costs the United States billions of dollars.
The costs associated with this pollution must definitely be added to the customs duties currently paid by Canada," he emphasized.
