CNN, referring to a source, reports that the Trump administration expects the security issues of the Strait of Hormuz to be discussed at the NATO summit to be held in Ankara. "I am fully confident that the Strait of Hormuz and ensuring maritime security in that area will be a topic of discussion," the American official said.
He noted that several NATO allies have expressed their willingness to contribute to maritime security, but emphasized that many "do not have the necessary ships or resources to meaningfully participate in this effort." He added that the Trump administration's main message to partners remains focused on increasing defense spending and increasing combat readiness. The NATO summit will be held in Ankara on July 7-8.
Washington has previously sharply criticized the actions of several European NATO allies during the US-Israeli war with Iran. Trump himself announced at the end of June that he would attend the NATO summit in Ankara, mainly out of respect for Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan, and was unlikely to attend the meeting if it was held in another country.
