South Korean President Lee Jae-myong announced that during his trip to Europe, he asked Pope Leo XIV to visit North Korea. "I have asked Pope Leo XIV to visit North Korea as soon as possible, including the demilitarized zone, in connection with his trip to the Republic of Korea next year," Lee Jae-myong said at a briefing.
The Catholic festival "World Youth Day" will be held in the Republic of Korea in 2027. On June 14, Cardinal Lazarus Yu Hyung-sik noted that the initiative to visit the DPRK, as well as the invitation, should come from Pyongyang.
