US and South Korea reach preliminary agreement on nuclear exports

The United States and South Korea have reached a preliminary agreement on the principles of nuclear export and cooperation, according to a statement published on the website of the US Department of Energy.

“Consistent with the deep and long-standing relationship between the United States and the Republic of Korea, on November 1, both countries achieved an important milestone by advancing their civil nuclear cooperation by initialing a memorandum of understanding on principles related to nuclear exports and cooperation,” the document said.

It is clarified that the parties have strengthened control over the export of civilian nuclear technologies.
