The doctor called a simple diet to reduce the risk of cancer

Federica Amati, a doctor and researcher at Imperial College London, recommended a diet based on fish, vegetables, fruits and whole grains with minimal processed meat to prevent cancer. He explained the principles of this diet to the Daily Mail.

According to the specialist, the optimal diet is a pescatarian diet, in which fish and plant foods are the main sources of protein, and poultry and red meat are rare. This approach is similar to the Mediterranean diet, which is associated with a lower risk of chronic disease.

Amati recommends including at least three servings of whole grains and five or more servings of fruits and vegetables daily. Sources of omega-3 fatty acids, such as oily fish, flaxseed, and walnuts, should also be an important part of the diet.

The doctor also recommends regularly consuming foods rich in fiber, such as beans, lentils, and other legumes. According to him, they help maintain the diversity of the gut microbiome, the community of microorganisms that play a vital role in the functioning of the immune system.

At the same time, the specialist emphasizes that in order to reduce the risks, it is important to limit the use of processed meat and semi-finished products as much as possible. Such a diet, he said, helps maintain health and reduces the risk of developing cancer.
