Reuters: The US is preparing for a long military operation against Iran

The US military is preparing for a possible long-term military operation against Iran that will last several weeks, Reuters reported, citing two unnamed US officials.

According to them, more complex action plans than the one implemented in June 2025 have already been developed. In particular, strikes could target not only the Islamic Republic's nuclear infrastructure, but also its government institutions and security agencies.

The agency, however, notes that Washington expects retaliatory attacks by Iran, which could increase the risk of a regional conflict. On January 26, the US announced that a "large fleet" was moving toward Iran. The American side expressed hope that Tehran will sit down at the negotiating table and reach a "fair and equal" deal, which would imply complete abandonment of nuclear weapons.

The US has warned that the "next attack will be worse", referring to strikes on the Islamic Republic in the summer of 2025, and urged "not to let this happen".
