Charging a smartphone outdoors or in an uncooled room causes significant additional overheating of the device and increases the risk of spontaneous combustion. Mikhail Demidov, equipment repairer of the Avito Services platform, told Gazeta.Ru about this.
“Charging the device in the sun is the worst thing for the battery. Even if the smartphone does not overheat under normal conditions, the charging process combined with the heat can become important for it. Therefore, it is important to charge the device only in a cool room or, in extreme cases, in the shade," said Demidov.
He also emphasized that it is better to refrain from power banks in hot weather. Yes, charging your smartphone on the beach or at the stadium may seem like a convenient solution, but it actually exposes the user to a double risk. After all, under the scorching sun, not only the smartphone begins to "boil", but also the external battery, which is also at risk of swelling and even catching fire.
"In hot weather, it is especially important to monitor the temperature of the device during charging. If the smartphone heats up significantly, it is better not to charge it to 100%, it is optimal to limit it to 80-90%. When using the fast charging function, it is recommended to limit the time to 10-15 minutes in order not to overload the battery," said the expert.
In conclusion, Demidov recommended checking other charging accessories. According to him, low-quality cables and adapters without safety certificates can additionally heat up the battery and cause a risk of short circuit.
