Iran ruled out amnesty for rioters

Iranian authorities have excluded the names of those arrested on charges of participating in and organizing the recent riots from the amnesty lists, the head of the judiciary of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Goliam-Hossein Mohseni-Ezei, announced on Monday.

"Due to the situation and the recent armed riots, I have given an order to exclude the names of all those convicts who are in any way connected with security issues from the list of repentance. The persons convicted for the recent riots will also not be included in the amnesty lists," said Mohseni-Ezhei, whose words were transmitted by Iran's IRIB TV and Radio Company.

Protests in Iran began in late December 2025 over the devaluation of the national currency, but later turned into riots and actions against the authorities, which peaked after former Iranian Shah Reza Pahlavi called. The Internet stopped working in the country, casualties were reported, both among the security forces and among the people who participated in the riots.

The authorities of Iran, accusing the USA and Israel of organizing the riots, announced on January 12 that the situation was under control.
