Aliyev's aide assures that Azerbaijan has not discussed the situation in Iran with the USA

Azerbaijan, rich in energy resources, located in the South Caucasus, between Iran and Russia, feels itself between "two world wars".

Hikmet Hajiyev, assistant to the president of Azerbaijan and head of the foreign policy department of the president's office, stated this in an interview with The National.

He referred to the Russian-Ukrainian and Israeli-Iranian conflicts, as well as the situation in the Middle East and the participation of the USA in regional processes.

According to Hajiyev, despite Azerbaijan's concerns about tensions in the region, Baku did not negotiate with Washington on the situation in Iran.

"We have not discussed this issue with the United States, and they have never approached us to discuss this topic," he noted.

Aliyev's aide also emphasized that Azerbaijani officials have been in contact with their Iranian counterparts in recent days. At the same time, according to him, the security situation in Iran does not require immediate intervention of Azerbaijan.

"We never interfere in the internal affairs of other states," he added.
