Bulgarian President Rumen Radev resigns, bTV Novinite reports. In his address to the people of Bulgaria, he said that he will submit his resignation tomorrow.
According to Radev, Vice President Iliana Yotova will be "a worthy leader of the state".
"Circumstances have forced me to appoint a provisional government seven times to protect state and public interests within the limits of my powers. Today I am addressing you for the last time as the President of Bulgaria," said Radev.
He has been the president of Bulgaria for nine years, since January 2017. Radev noted that during this period, Bulgaria completed its European integration and joined the Schengen zone and the Eurozone.
"The question here is why the realization of these goals did not bring stability and satisfaction. <...> Why do so many people in European Bulgaria feel poor, and even more live in insecurity? I have repeatedly mentioned that the answer is hidden in a rigid political model," the president added.
