The US State Department has advised its citizens in Iran to immediately leave the country by land through the Turkish or Armenian border. The corresponding notification was posted on the website of the State Department.
"US citizens should leave Iran immediately. If it is safe, consider leaving Iran by land to Turkey or Armenia," the statement said, citing ongoing unrest in Iran as the rationale for the recommendation.
Citizens are advised to take responsibility for their own withdrawal from Iran without assistance from the US government. US and Iranian citizens must leave the country using their Iranian passports.
US authorities also advise against leaving Iran via Afghanistan, Iraq or Pakistan.
