NYT. Venezuelan authorities have released several American prisoners

The interim government of Venezuela released several American citizens for the first time after the US attack, The New York Times (NYT) reported, citing its sources.

According to the source of the publication, three US citizens were released in Venezuela on Tuesday evening. The State Department confirmed the release of the Americans, but did not provide other details.

"We welcome the release of Americans arrested in Venezuela. This is an important step in the right direction by the interim authorities," the agency said in a statement obtained by the publication.

On January 3, the United States attacked civilian and military targets in Venezuela. A state of emergency was declared in the country due to military aggression.
