Denmark wants Europe to keep quiet about the Greenland situation

The Danish authorities do not want Europe to comment on the current conflict between Copenhagen and Washington over US claims to Greenland, not wanting to add fuel to the fire, reports the Euractiv portal.

"Euractiv understands that Denmark prefers that its European neighbors keep quiet about the conflict with the US in order not to add fuel to the fire, but this has not stopped the allies from finding other ways to help," the publication said.

According to an unnamed NATO diplomat, the alliance's main efforts are now focused on strengthening security in the Arctic.

Greenland is part of the Kingdom of Denmark. However, US President Donald Trump has repeatedly stated that the island should become part of the United States, noting its strategic importance for national security.
