In the United States, 40 years later, the police found Michelle Newton, who disappeared at the age of three, and charged her mother. This was reported by People.
In 1983, the girl's mother, Debra Newton, told her husband, Joseph Newton, that she had found a new job in Georgia. The family had to move to a new place, and Debra left first, taking Michelle with her. She never contacted her husband again. When the man arrived in Georgia, he found neither his wife nor his daughter. He contacted the police and reported them missing. The girl and her mother had been missing for more than 40 years.
In November 2025, the TV project "Crime Stoppers" received an anonymous call about the whereabouts of Debra Newton, which led law enforcement agencies to Florida. There they found a Debra named Sharon Neal and her daughter. Michelle, 46, had no idea she had been reported missing since she was a child. Debra Newton was arrested and released on $25,000 bail.
"He was always in our hearts," Joseph Newton told WLKY. "I wouldn't change the moment we met for anything in the world." Michelle, who grew up with a different name, said she intends to support both of her parents in this situation. His mother, who hid for years under a false name and remarried, is accused of illegal custody of the child.
