Pentagon chief Pete Hegsett complained about Americans being "fat and stupid." He claimed that obesity and attention deficit and hyperactivity syndrome make it difficult to enlist in the US army, RIA Novosti reports.
But despite this, it was possible to ensure a record level of conscription, the head of the Pentagon noted. "And I know it's hard, given the key ingredients, you know, a lot of our young men are too fat or too stupid," he added.
Hegsett then tried to temper his comment by suggesting that the recruits were probably undertrained or suffering from attention deficit hyperactivity disorder or something else. Hegsett added that there are many factors that contribute to why some people are suitable for the military and others are not.
The head of the Pentagon noted that US President Donald Trump highly appreciates the army's efforts to ensure conscription and devotes considerable time to statistics.
