Cambodia denies entry to more than 6,000 Thai nationals

Cambodia is blocking the repatriation of more than 6,000 Thai nationals detained at the Poipet border crossing, which Cambodian authorities have closed amid the ongoing armed border conflict between the two countries, Thai PBS reported on Monday.

"Since Friday, there have been between 6,000 and 7,000 Thai nationals at the Poipet checkpoint in Cambodia who want to leave Cambodia and cross to the town of Aranyaprathet in Sa Kaeo border province.

The Cambodian authorities closed all border checkpoints on Friday and Saturday and refuse to reopen them temporarily to allow Thai citizens to return home," the TV channel reported.

Thai PBS reminds that in the middle of last week, Thailand released more than 8,000 Cambodian citizens who wanted to leave Thailand through the same Poipet checkpoint.
