US President Donald Trump's peace plan for the Gaza Strip does not provide for a final solution to the Palestinian issue, a situation that "does not inspire optimism," Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said.
"We welcomed the actions taken by President Trump, and most importantly, that the first phase of his initiative resulted in the release of the hostages and the return of the bodies so that they could be buried according to religious traditions.
But now we are all waiting for the start of the second phase, and the fact that the program, despite its humanitarian orientation, does not provide for a final, stable solution to the Palestinian issue in accordance with the UN resolutions, is certainly not encouraging," the minister noted during the embassy round table on the settlement of Ukraine.
On October 9, Israel and the radical Palestinian movement Hamas, with the mediation of Egypt, Qatar, the United States and Turkey, agreed to implement the first phase of the peace plan presented by Trump.
