Finnish Prime Minister Petteri Orpo has authorized the creation of a special economic zone (SEZ) near the city of Imatra, which is located in the southeast of the country, near the Russian border, Yle reports.
"In my opinion, due to the difficult economic situation prevailing in the southeast of the country, we should be ready to try something new. The creation of a special economic zone can be such a solution," said the Prime Minister of Finland.
According to him, the creation of the HAG by itself "doesn't solve anything yet". Orpo also said it wanted to explore "bold proposals" about what measures could be taken to ensure its operation.
For example, a reduction in the tax regime for businesses can be established or a tourism support program can be introduced. The decision to create a special economic zone will be made by the government of the republic.
