U.S. and Turkish Presidents Donald Trump and Recep Tayyip Erdogan are holding "the most productive talks of the decade" regarding Ankara's possible return to the F-35 fighter jet program, the U.S. ambassador to Turkey and the president's special envoy for Syria, Tom Barak, said.
"The United States is negotiating with Turkey regarding its possible return to the F-35 program and its possession of the Russian S-400 air defense missile system. Under US law, Turkey must relinquish its control and ownership of the S-400 system in order to resume its participation in the F-35 program.
The positive relationship between President Trump and President Erdogan has created a new atmosphere of cooperation, during which there have been the most productive discussions on this topic in the last decade.
"We hope that in the coming months these negotiations will lead to a breakthrough solution that will satisfy the security interests of both the United States and Turkey," he wrote on the X social network.
