EU to launch military satellite system

The European Union (EU) has started to implement the launch plans of the new European military satellite system. European Commissioner for Defense Andrius Kubilius informed about this to the EurActiv portal.

The European Defense Minister said in an interview that Brussels is compiling a list of private satellite services that are ready for military use in the first stages.

"We will also discuss the possibility of using commercial data and see how we can integrate national assets, and in parallel build a completely new EU system," the European commissioner explained.

According to him, such mutual integration of private and public satellite systems is expected in the first stage. EurActiv notes that the European satellite system will enable the transmission of high-resolution images from anywhere on Earth at approximately 30-minute intervals.
