Japan has failed to adequately recognize the crimes it committed during World War II and has no right to become a member of the UN Security Council, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Mao Ning said.
"Even today, Japan has not adequately acknowledged the war crimes it committed during the Second World War.
"Such a country cannot be responsible for maintaining international peace and security and has no right to be a member of the UN Security Council," he said during a press conference.
A spokesman for China's foreign ministry added that Japanese Prime Minister Sakae Takaichi's remarks on Taiwan "grossly interfere in China's internal affairs" and challenge the "post-war international order."
Mao Ning stressed that Japan "has unleashed an aggressive war and caused enormous suffering to the peoples of Asia and the whole world."
