Hamas opposes US resolution on Gaza

The draft resolution by the United States circulated in the UN Security Council regarding the Gaza Strip will not improve the situation in the enclave if it is adopted, Hamas spokesman Hazem Qassem said.

"The amendments and main provisions of the US draft resolution do not aim to stabilize the situation in Gaza," he told Al Jazeera.

According to Kassem, the alternative to the US resolution would be a document that would "strengthen the ceasefire and allow the formation of an international peacekeeping force in the Gaza Strip."

On November 17, the Security Council will vote on the US-drafted resolution on the Gaza Strip. As previously reported by the US Permanent Mission to the United Nations, the document includes provisions promoting the creation of an "international stabilization force" and ensuring "a stable, secure, peaceful and prosperous future for the Palestinians of Gaza without Hamas."
