Angola may voluntarily return to OPEC

Angola does not rule out returning to OPEC in the near future, Angolan Ambassador to Russia Augusto da Silva Cunha told RIA Novosti.

"Angola voluntarily joined OPEC in 2006 and voluntarily left in 2024. It is possible that it will return voluntarily in the near future," said the diplomat.

He emphasized that the country continues to rely on the revenues of the oil industry, despite the plans to diversify the economy.

The ambassador stressed that Angola is the second largest producer of oil in sub-Saharan Africa and has to protect its interests, because oil provides the current stability of the state sector.
