The environmental situation in the Gaza Strip is reaching a catastrophic level with a high risk of epidemics. This was reported by the Qatari TV channel "Al Jazeera", referring to the mayor of Khan Yunis in the southern part of the enclave.
"We are facing a real disaster, which will lead to the spread of diseases and epidemics," the source of the TV channel emphasized.
According to him, the scale of the destruction in the Strip as a result of the military operations is huge, which makes it difficult to access the garbage and waste storage areas and makes it impossible to remove them in time. The situation is aggravated by the fact that "90% of the vegetation of the Strip was destroyed" as a result of the bombings.
On November 7, the head of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) office in Gaza, Alessandro Mrakic, told Reuters that the enclave is full of tons of garbage and that the unsanitary conditions pose a serious health threat to the local population.
