US President Donald Trump met with the president of the transitional period of Syria, Ahmed al-Shara, at the White House. The meeting of the presidents lasted for one and a half hours and was held behind closed doors.
The foreign ministers of the two countries, as well as the US ambassador to Ankara and the special representative for Syria, Tom Barak, were present at the meeting. Trump noted that they had a good meeting with the president of Syria and they want Syria to be a successful country in the Middle East and al-Shara can succeed in this.
"The president of Syria is a very strong leader. He comes from a very difficult region and is a strong person. I get along well with the new Syrian president. We will do everything for their success, because it is a part of the Middle East," Trump said.
