The European Commission is considering the creation of its own intelligence service

The European Commission is studying the possibility of creating its own intelligence service, presumably to ensure the security of European institutions, European Commission spokesman Balyas Ujvari said at a briefing in Brussels.

"We are in a difficult geopolitical situation. Therefore, the European Commission is exploring ways to strengthen its security and intelligence capabilities. As part of this approach, we are exploring the creation of a specialized cell within the office of the Secretary General," he said.

EU representatives refused to comment on the fact that security issues in the EU are solely the responsibility of member states, and that such an idea clearly does not find support in European capitals.
