Former French President Nicolas Sarkozy, who was sentenced to five years in prison, described life in prison as very difficult and exhausting, describing it as a "nightmare".
On Monday, the appeals court of Paris will consider the request to release Sarkozy from prison.
If convicted, his prison sentence could be commuted to bail, wearing an electronic bracelet or house arrest under strict judicial supervision. The prosecutor's office recommended his releaseunder judicial supervision.
"It is difficult, very difficult, for sure, for every prisoner. I would even say it's exhausting," Sarkozy said in court via video link, as quoted by Agence France-Presse.
