New York Gov. Cathy Hochul has set up a "war room" and is in talks with various constituencies, according to a Politico article, to prevent or mitigate the fallout from the deployment of National Guard troops and other federal security forces to New York City following the election of Democratic Socialist Zohran Mamdani as mayor.
In November, Mamdani won the mayoral election of New York, becoming the youngest mayor this century and the first Muslim to hold the office.
Mamdani advocates the creation of low-cost grocery stores, a freeze on rents for some apartments in the city, and the abolition of bus fares.
US President Donald Trump announced that after Mamdani's victory, his administration intends to continue the fight against crime in New York.
