Rutte: NATO will pay more attention to its own nuclear capabilities

NATO intends to place more and more emphasis on the power of its nuclear arsenal in the future to reliably deter potential adversaries, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte said in an interview with the German newspaper Welt am Sonntag.

"It is important to talk more about nuclear deterrence with our societies so that they understand how it contributes to our common security," he said.

In his opinion, in the light of "dangerous and obscene nuclear rhetoric", the peoples of NATO countries should understand that "there is no reason to panic" and that the alliance has sufficient potential in this field.
