French President Emmanuel Macron will not participate in the summit of the European Union and the Union of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) to be held in Colombia due to US pressure on the Latin American country, the Financial Times reported, citing its sources.
Earlier, US President Donald Trump announced that Colombia is completely under the control of drug dealers. At the same time, the leaders of Colombia and the United States have already started several debates.
Thus, in an interview with Univisión, the President of Colombia, Gustavo Petro, stated that the world should either change Trump or "get rid of him". Commenting on these remarks, Trump called his Colombian counterpart "a thief and a bad person" and urged him to be careful with his language, threatening to take "severe measures" against him and his country if he did not.
"The consequences of what is happening in the Caribbean are very complex. The CELAC meeting is being canceled at the last minute," an unnamed Latin American official told the British publication. The Elysée Palace confirmed the cancellation, but did not explain the reasons.
