Italy's Defense Ministry has canceled the Frecce Tricolori (Tricolor Arrows) aerobatic team's traditional flight to mark National Unity and Armed Forces Day after part of the medieval Conti tower in central Rome collapsed.
On Tuesday, a wreath-laying ceremony will be held at the monument to the Unknown Soldier at the Altar of the Fatherland, located near the scene of the tragedy in Piazza Venezia. Armed Forces Day is traditionally celebrated by an aerobatic team flying over the center of the Italian capital.
"In connection with the wreath-laying ceremony at the memorial near the Fatherland's altar, which was organized by the highest constitutional bodies, the traditional flight of the Frecce Tricolori will not take place."
"This decision was made to avoid those who are currently and in the future responsible for ensuring security in the area of Imperial Forum Street and Conti Tower," Nova news agency quoted the Ministry of Defense as saying.
