Russia hopes to understand the new Syrian authorities on the issue of Russian military bases in that country, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov said.
"Of course, we keep in touch, we work, and I hope that we will achieve a mutual understanding with the new authorities," Bogdanov said.
At the beginning of the year, foreign media reported that the new Syrian authorities have severed the Tartus port Management Agreement. At the same time, the Syrian authorities have stated that the agreements on the deployment of Russian troops in Latakia and Tartus have not intended to sever.
The Russian side stated at different levels that the issue of maintaining Russian military bases in Syria requires additional consultations. The parties agreed to continue deepened contacts in all directions of cooperation.
