Facts and hazards
The Mediterranean Sea is considered to be one of the most contaminated sea zones in the world.
Although it is less than 1% of the world's ocean area, about 7% of the world's microplasty is accumulated here.
The main sources of pollution are:
Insufficient managed litter flows from coastal settlements,
Tourism and navigation,
Non-cleaned sewage leakage.
The organization's call
The Mediterranean Union calls for:
Radical improvement of garbage control systems,
Introduction of the principles of the circular economy,
Increasing the environmental awareness of the population and business,
Promoting international cooperation to maintain the maritime environment. "
