WSJ: China sent an offer to the US to host Trump-Putin meeting

China has sent the US administration a proposal to organize a meeting between US President Donald Trump and Russian leader Vladimir Putin. This is reported by The Wall Street Journal, citing sources.

According to their information, Chinese officials, through intermediaries, have offered the Trump team to hold a summit between the Russian Federation and the United States and contribute to efforts to resolve the conflict in Ukraine.

The newspaper notes that Beijing's proposal does not provide for the participation of Vladimir Zelensky in the event. At the same time, Chinese President Xi Jinping does not want any assistance from Beijing in resolving the Ukrainian conflict to jeopardize close Russian-Chinese relations, sources emphasized to The Wall Street Journal.

The White House refused to confirm to the publication that it had received such a proposal from China. According to an unnamed US administration official, the initiative is "absolutely unworkable."
