Former Tajik Foreign Minister sentenced to 27 years in prison for attempted coup

The First Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Court of Tajikistan, Shavkat Lutfulozoda, confirmed at a press conference that former Foreign Minister Hamrokhon Zarifi and a number of other politicians accused of the coup attempt have been sentenced to 18-27 years in prison.

To a corresponding question, he replied that the former head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Tajikistan, as well as a former deputy of the parliament and chairman of the Democratic Party of Tajikistan, Sayjafar Usmonzoda, was sentenced to 27 years in prison, and the former deputy chairman of the Democratic Party, journalist Akhmadshoh Komilzoda, of the Social Democratic Party, was sentenced to 18 years in prison.

Former security officer Nuramin Ganizoda and former employee of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic Abdulfaiz Atoin also appeared in the coup case; they were sentenced to 18 and 17 years in prison, respectively. In addition, Shokirzhon Khakimov's niece, journalist Rukhshona Khakimov, was sentenced to 8 years in prison by the court.
