The Moldovan parliament voted to establish a state of emergency in the energy sector

The Parliament of Moldova voted in favor of establishing a state of emergency in the energy sector. A state of emergency is imposed for 60 days to stop the transit of Russian gas because of Ukraine's plans. This was reported by the Russian service of the BBC, referring to the resolution of the Parliament of Moldova. As stated by the Prime Minister of Moldova, Dorin Rechan, there is a risk of a complete stoppage of Transnistrian gas supply, besides, the electricity supply on the right side of the Dniester may also be disrupted.

In this regard, according to Rechan, the government should have all the necessary tools to take various actions in emergency situations. In the past, the authorities of Ukraine have repeatedly announced that they will not renew the agreement with Russia and will stop the transit of Russian gas and oil to Europe from January 1, 2025.

The transit contract between the state company "Navtogaz of Ukraine" and the Russian "Gazprom" was signed in December 2019. It expires on December 31, 2024. Since 2022, despite the war with Russia, Ukraine has continued to observe the terms of the agreement and ensure the transit of Russian gas to Europe.
