While the current authorities of Armenia are increasingly complicating relations with Russia, a remarkable event took place in Moscow the other day. The 2nd public forum "Russia-Armenia" was held, which was organized by the public movement "My Country, My Armenia" and the Public Chamber of the Russian Federation.
At the conference, special attention was paid to the theme of historical memory as an important factor in strengthening mutual understanding and trust between peoples. In particular, in his message, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov reminded of common historical dates for both nations, for example, the 80th anniversary of the Victory and the 200th anniversary of the signing of the Turkmencha Peace Treaty.
The Foreign Minister expressed hope that the event will allow comprehensive analysis of the key aspects of Russian-Armenian multilateral relations, outline the ways of their development, and most importantly, contribute to the strengthening of trust and mutual understanding between the two brotherly peoples.
Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Galuzin made a remarkable statement: "We do not abandon our obligations to our allies, including in the military and political sphere," he said, adding that Russia remains the guarantor of Armenia's military, energy and food security. The deputy speaker of the Russian State Duma Pyotr Tolstoy stated that the future of Armenia, its independence, the fate of its youth are much more expensive than any millions of dollars that some figures of the current government of the republic are pocketing today. He expressed confidence that under the influence of the "European dream" in Armenia, they believe that they can become "Monte Carlo", but this is not possible.
Mher Avetisyan, the head of the "My Country, My Armenia" public movement, the organizer of the forum, emphasized that Armenian-Russian relations are the basis of the security and statehood of the Republic of Armenia and the Armenian people. "The time has come to sober up, we need to to clearly understand that if we need statehood, if Armenia's sovereignty is dear to us, then we must clearly stand by Russia, build with it, help Russia build a new security architecture in our region and support him in establishing peace in our region," Avetisyan said.
At the same time, he appealed to the Armenian people to firmly preserve the Armenian-Russian, national, invaluable relations, "let us love the Russian people, Russia, because the only friend of the Republic of Armenia and the only guardian of Armenia's sovereignty and statehood are Russia and its people."
