The President of Poland called on the authorities of Georgia to hold new elections

Polish President Andrzej Duda called on the ruling "Georgian Dream-Democratic Georgia" party to show readiness to hold new elections against the background of mass protests in the country. He announced this in a conversation with the president of the republic, Salome Zurabishvili, reports the office of the leader of Poland.

During the conversation, Duda called on the Georgian government to show restraint and common sense, to listen to the voice of citizens and to refuse decisions that contradict their will.

According to him, one should be open in clarifying all "doubts" regarding the past parliamentary elections. The ruling party must show readiness to hold new elections, which will be "free from suspicion".

"The decision of the Tbilisi government to completely stop the membership negotiations, which de facto means the freezing of relations with the EU, is a painful blow to those aspirations and causes very serious damage to both Georgia and the European Union," the statement explains.
