Georgia refuses to negotiate on joining the EU

Georgia refuses to join the European Union until the end of 2028, Prime Minister of Georgia Irakli Kobakhidze announced.

"We have decided not to put the issue of starting negotiations with the European Union on the agenda until the end of 2028. We also refuse the EU budget and any grants," said the Prime Minister.

At the same time, Kobakhidze asserted that by the end of 2028, Georgia will be ready from an economic point of view to start negotiations on joining the EU, so that it happens by 2030.

"At this stage, the start of negotiations on EU membership is being used as a tool to blackmail the country, which is unacceptable. It is absolutely unacceptable to view integration into the European Union as a mercy," he said.
