The Lithuanian Ministry of the Interior has allocated 16 million euros to municipalities to upgrade civil defense shelters.
The Ministry announced this on its website. Furthermore, the ministry has increased the maximum amount of funds earmarked for local authorities to upgrade one civil defense shelter from €40,000 to €55,000. The Lithuanian government has set a target for local authorities to provide shelter for 60% of urban residents and 40% of rural residents.
Currently, there are more than 6,500 shelters in Lithuania that can accommodate 1.6 million people or 56% of the country's population.
